CARRIER OILS 101

As I mentioned in a earlier blog, Carrier oils act as a base to dilute essential oils (EO) before application to the skin.  Carrier oils generally have no odor to speak of , although some oils may have more of a distinctive odor than others, like olive oil which has a rich nutty aroma. Because Carrier Oils are therapeutic it is important to select based on it's properties as well as the location of the body the oils will be applied or massaged.  There are many choices of carrier oils and the list grows daily as we learn about new plants and the benefits they contain in relationship to healing and wellness. Once Essential Oils are added the efficacy of the oils is elaborated and becomes distinctive in nature.  Carrier oils are produced by the cold-pressing and maceration methods.  Carrier oils should be stored in a cool, dry place and after opening refrigerated or frozen if you have large quantities to preserve them, and give a longer shelf life.
